About Us

Apple Tree Nursery is a community business with charitable status. It is non-profit making and all monies are used to benefit the Nursery.

Apple Tree Nursery first opened its doors on 22 October 1990 in Pavilion House, Rothesay with a capacity for 16 children. It was soon realised that the premises were too small and inadequate to meet the needs of the Island.

After much negotiation the present site was purchased from the Local Authority for £1.00 and a funding package, comprising of monies from AIE, ERDF and the National Lottery, enabled the Board to build a 40 place Nursery which opened for business on 5 January 1998.

The Nursery has a multidisciplinary staff team where each staff member holds or is working towards recognised childcare qualifications. All staff have been vetted via the PVG scheme. Apple Tree Nursery also offers practical work placements to Students from various colleges and training agencies, whom you may see from time to time in the playrooms. A member of staff always supervises the students/trainees.

We are in partnership with the Local Authority.

Contained within the following pages is relevant information, which we find is useful for new parents/carers when they are settling their child(ren) into the nursery.  (Hopefully, this will answer many of the initial questions which you may wish to ask at this point).

We operate an “open door” policy and that all of our staff are here to look after you and your child(ren), therefore if you have any difficulties or questions, please feel free to speak to any member of staff at any time.

If you wish to discuss any of the information contained within this document, please do not hesitate to contact Lesley Anne Lee or Heather Sweet.
